Dear jing,

You cannot see the pictures ?
I can see them without any problem. Question

Same here.
Jing, you could see my pictures, right? My first thought was maybe photobucket (Eri's and mine pics are on photobucket) is restricted in China, but this cannot be the reason. Think

yitian,

Not closed yet. Very Happy A little more.

jing, thanks for the information.

Lin Zexu is certainly very important person in the history of HK and China.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lin_Zexu

I can understand the meaning of the couplet, but I cannot translate into English. (Perhaps direct translation is not understandable)

Something like, "Even if you want to know a secret of a long life, it is not possible" "Don't be greedy, know enough and stay humble." ˇH

If someone can explain it, please do. Wink

Thanks jing for pointing out the couplet, there is always never-ending learning process Very Happy. It’s great to see the photo of the street where Ip Man came from (培德里叶, hihi). Thanks for sharing jing flower .

Wow, what can I say, Eri, thanks for all the pics, plus the translation of the couplet sunny . I was wondering whether you took a photo with your goodself sitting on the stairs; and then superimpose it with a screenshot from The Grandmaster international (also US) version Wink .

You are right, Eri, that simple translation of the couplet will get everyone lost. A scholar could write a long essay based on these 2 lines. Here is little information I dug out of the web: 嵇康 (Ji Kang, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ji_Kang), aka 嵇中散 and 马少游 (Ma Shaoyou) are 2 famous historic figures mentioned in the couplet. Ji Kang was a Chinese author, poet, Taoist philosopher, musician etc; he wrote several books on healthy living. Ma Shaoyou was famous for longing an easy and carefree life. A simple and straight translation of the couplet would be “Learn nourishing life from 嵇中散; Match life satisfaction to 马少游”. I hope Lin Zexu would not tumble in his grave when his spirit saw my translation here…... Shocked Embarassed

yitian,

Actually, I had a photo taken sitting on the stairs. Laughing Embarassed

Thanks for explaining the couplet. Now I understood. I didn't know that last 3 characters were names, so I thought that was part of the poetry or something. (or kind of double meaning with these names ?)

One Chinese character possibly mean so much, it is very difficult to translate it in other languages. I really felt that when I was watching The Grandmaster.
I had to check a lot of things after watching the movie. Wink

Helga,

Thanks for enjoying all of these with us.

It looks to me that people actually live there, in Chikan Village. I wonder where did they go when WKW rented the entire street for 3 years in order to shoot his film Think ?

AND, I forgot to mention Embarassed , Eri, your picture taking skill is really good salute flower .
