Well after a slight disappointment yesterday I was today a bit awarded with lots of culture. I went to Cheung Chau (one of my favorite places) today and it seems today was the high season there of Tin Hau Festival (goddess of the sea). When I arrived at the pier I could hear traditional music and could see lion and unicorn dances - wonderful.
But first as Jenny requested: Breakfast. A pineapple bun on the ferry leaving Yung Shue Wan. Sorry about the bad quality, I had no time to do the correct settings, ferry was too quick - or I was too slow.
And dessert, my beloved black-white. Black sesame and bean curd.
A boat arriving or leaving? with a Tin Hau shrine.
This evening the upload of my pics takes exceedingly long. Will try it tomorrow again. There are more pics from today. _________________ Water which is too pure has no fish. |

...."slight disappointment , yesterday " ?
To see/witness a local feast /ceremony is certainly very interesting and cheerful .... the colourful flags on the boat are beautiful !
Regarding "...running out of time"... ....Chin up ! Heike...this is surely not your last trip to Hong Kong....I guess
Enjoy every single day left ...as good as you can |

So, let`s continue our yesterday experience.
One of the dancers was so kind to pose for me. Sweet!
Hey, what`s that on the right side? A bamboo tent for cantonese opera? Will I be able to hear a little of this old art?
Oh yes I could. The costumes are wonderful, colorful
During my last years stay at Lamma, I could experience the whole "Tin Hau Festival" with cantonese opera, dragonboat races, lion and unicorn dances. That was wonderful.
Performers, having fun.
No, not my dinner!
Preparation for the famous Cheung Chau bun festival.
Haha, sorry I couldn`t resist.
Roof of a Tin Hau temple, I love those little figures, let alone the dragons.
Main beach on Cheung Chau.
I was told, Cheung Chau once were 2 separate islands being close together and the sea connected them with sand.
Gotta go, the big city is waiting. _________________ Water which is too pure has no fish. |

Helga, if I had used my computer and/or my brain I could have known it.
I think especially the cantonese opera is not for everybody`s ears. I called my sis last year outside the opera tent and she was asking me "who is killing a cat?". I don`t mind, I like it.
The whole "party" starts on Lamma the day after I`ve left. Ah well one can`t have it all. _________________ Water which is too pure has no fish. |

Let`s continue our little adventure.
Today I went back to Cheung Chau because it was dragonboat day.
More lion and unicorn dances.
Ready!?
Action!
Beautifully decorated.
But everyday life goes on ...
... or not.
Jenny you wanted to see snacks. I have not really an idea what this is. An old lady was selling this stuff and I was hoping it is filled with red bean (which I like a lot) - asked for it in cantonese, but she told me it is not but what it is I couldn`t understand but she told me in cantonese that it tastes good. It was meat, I guess chicken, and peanuts - actually it was delish.
Narrow street in on Cheung Chau.
This guy was really quick.
Ham, you missed egg waffles? Here you go!
Seafood to get dried.
Lunch, was way too much to eat it all.
Broccoli with garlic and chicken with black pepper.
And back again.
No idea if I will be able to post anything an Monday, I`m leaving around midnight.
It was very nice to take you all with me on my wonderful trip and I hope you enjoyed it a little. But most of all I hope I could you introduce a little to this wonderful place on earth. _________________ Water which is too pure has no fish. |

Well you've definitely travelled more than I have! I haven't been to Lamma or Cheung Chau. You should be my tour guide next time I'm there.
Okay, pineapple bun is NOT dessert! LOL. I like stuff like yeung zi gum lo (mango pomelo sago soup) or dan bak hen yen cha (almond tea with egg white). |

Yes, I know I know, I thought I could convince you. Let`s say it`s sweet and could be eaten as dessert as well. ? _________________ Water which is too pure has no fish. |

Thanks for the nice photos again, Heike.
I've been to Cheung Chau long long time ago. Your photos made me want to visit there again.
Jenny,
yeung zi gam lo is my favorite, too. |

Thanks for letting me know . It sounds healthy and delicious . Initially I kept thinking the white part is some kind of Tofu .

One good thing you are going home is that Helga will be watching her Grandmaster DVD sooner . |
