IN THE Mood For Love star Tony Leung Chiu Wai has adopted seven ducks.

The well-known Hongkong actor took to the little plastic fellows like a duck to water, while he was in town to promote the film.

The 38-year-old, who won the Best Actor prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival for his performance in the movie, plans to name all seven of them after his golden retriever, Benjamin.

And if one wins The Straits Times Million Dollar Duck Race, he will donate his winnings to charity.

The aim of the race is to raise $1 million for Touch Community Services, a non-profit organisation that helps over 3,000 needy and disadvantaged people a year.

He is one of a list of newsmakers who have bought duck adoption certificates.

Nightclub Zouk swept up 500, while Johnson Lock, famed for its roasted duck and chicken, has bought 100.

The race will be on Nov 12 and adoption certificates are on sale until Oct 29.

Souvenir Derby Ducks, which cost those adopting a duck an extra $5, are now sold out. From today, they are available only as part of a promotion at M1 mobile phone outlets.
