Hi MoMo,
have a wonderful experience!!!

Hub is a big boy now, can look after himself for a while.

I am sure that talking about movies with other movie lovers will be incredible.

Will you be guest at your daughter's? Cool! What did they say?

Have all the fun you can get!

Big Kiss

Dear friends

Thank you for all your kind wishes - you are lovable !

- Husband will not die of starvation (hahaha)- I know
- my Mother is a "young" and quite healthy 81 (birthday on 23rd !)
- only the neglected household and garden will look like a rubbish tip when I come back - uufff - but what shall´s - that´s the price for!
- I will have 3 different accomodations in this 2 weeks: daughters-hotel-friends
- I will try my best as jury-member but - do not worry: I also will enjoy this time as good as possible!
- New friends and talking with movie lovers ? - Hope so, but in the past I made the experience that moviegoers are not very communicative at all (after leaving the dark cinema, everybody needs time to think it over - me too) I guess we will not see each other very often, but tomorrow, I will know more !

Please stay well and healthy - and recover from talkative safran !

Dear friends !

21.10.2009 - My first day of the "VIENNALE adventure"

The train took me through hoarfrost-landscape with snow on "Semmering" to a sunny (not toooo cold and windy) "Good old Vienna" - I always feel well in this city !

First contact with our "bosses" from STANDARD" in an old traditioal "Wiener Kaffeehaus" - the other 4 jury members seem to be nice and we are all very motivated and exited. Some changing of our schedule and some tips. I have to choose some "privat" movies till tomorrow .

Tomorrow midday I´ll get the Akkreditation-card and in the evening we have to take part at the Opening-Gala with Tilda Swinton, Jane Birkin, and ........?- I will let you know.
After the opening film:
"La Pivellina" A/I 2009 -from Rainer Frimmel, Tizza Corvi (see Viennale homepage http://www.viennale.at/)
The opening- party in the "Wiener Rathaus" (The Mayor of Vienna invites people from Politic and culture.......with dinner......)- hope I stand it ! Probably I will not be able to write you any more after this strenuous day
- hahaha

See you soon
MoMo

22.10.2009 - the Opening of VIENNALE

- no - already 23rd - 3 40 h in the morning !

Came back with nightbusses (well organized in Vienna) in daughters
accomodation.

Premier Gala and Premier movie in presence of Tilda Swanson.
The Dinner was in the gigantic bombastic ceremony hall of neo-Gothic Wiener Rathaus - overloadet architecture but very impressing for such
an event.

"La Pivellina" is a good movie that makes us think to be a documentary - but isn´t. It is a very familiar told story of a little girl, left from her mother on a playground in the suburbs of Roma. Found and put up spontanously from a simple (poor but heartly) woman of a circus-family, in its desolate winter-accomodation.
All main characters (amateurs)inclusive the little girl(?!) took part on this first night. The italian/austrian directors-duo did explain their intentions. Was a pleasing festival-begin !

Tomorrow till Monday I am in a Hotel - with husband and dear friends -
I will not be able to do much together with them, cause of my full movie-schedule - and - I do not know if I will have internet-connection.

I ´ll tell you more as soon as possible -
Viennese Greetings at 04 20 h !!!!!
MoMo

Dear sleepless(?) in Vienna Helga MoMo,

Glad to hear you're enjoying the festival. Very Happy

I always get so tired after watching movie on weekdays after work...
(Actually, I just got back home from TIFF)
Some of my friends watch 3-4 movies in one day on weekends during film festival seasons.
I can't concentrate on all the movies, so I don't intend to do so.
So please report when you have time and energy to write.

Hope you are not confined in the darkness(i.e. theater ) all day, but
you'll have some time to see your daughters and enjyoy the autumn sunshine in Vienna !! Very Happy

Have a nice movie weekend Wink

Hello MoMo

Have a wonderful time as jury member.
Do not worry about hubby he will appreciate you all the more when you get back as... absence makes the heart grow fonder.
And as for the garden and housework... there when you get back.

The opening evening sounded lovely. I like Tilda Swinton, did you get a chance to talk to her? You have a busy schedule ahead, enjoy, enjoy and then enjoy some more. It all sounds so grand and interesting, lucky you.
Looking forward to your reviews... as always best wishes...mary.

Dear friends -

I am living like a Vampire at the moment - but I am loving it !!! (for 2 weeks)
Today the first day, I have the opportunity and time and energy to write - I´ve already watched 14 of my "Must" -movies and some privat chosen ones too. Everyday it is about 02 00 h in the morning when I come "home"(my old friends where I live at the moment, I do never meet !!)
Met some very nice people - like the Jury-members and all guys from Viennale and Standard are so helpful and kind !
Sorry, but my plan to write a diary/ a daily report, was too optimistic.

You won´t believe it, but this is hard and serious work.
Sunday night we have to find a decision and fix one movie or Doku from our favourites. We have to write a report with explaination and reasons for the chosen "winner" - there is no kind of influence and have to stay and attend at the "Final Gala" on Wednesday- Two of us have to join and represent our Jury on the stage (with our "Standard-boss")

My personal favourits till now:
"Prodigal Sons" a Doku by Kimberly Reed, GB/USA 2008
"Le Roi de L évasion" by´Alain Guiraudie, F 2009
"Fish Tank" by Andrea Arnold, GB 2009
"Ddongpari" by YangIk-june, ROK 2008
"Politist,Adjectiv" by Corneliu Porumboiu, RO,2009
The other 4 members have similar favourits, but seem to prefer a movie from Iran: "Darareye Elly" by Asghar Farhadi, Iran 2009 - I cannot agree !!
This will be a hard decision - I think - because we have to vote with "one voice".

So far my news from VIENNALE - I´ll try to send a foto - hope it works
Dearesst viennese Greetings
MoMo

Hi MoMo

I've seen Fish Tank a couple of months ago. I met up with a friend and suggested we see it as the movie had a good review. That was the main actress' first attempt at acting, hard to believe as the young girl was so good. The director was having a hard time finding someone suitable and by chance saw her on the street fighting with her boyfriend, and thought that's the girl I want for the role. An excellant film, good story and wonderful acting really worth seeing if you get the chance.

Best wishes...mary.
