The 52nd Cork Film Festival will showcase the work of top international directors over the next fortnight.

The event opened with a premiere of the Coen brothers feature 'No Country For Old Men' and will close on October 21 with Ang Lee's 'Lust, Caution' which won the Golden Lion Award at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.

Up to 40 films including one directed by Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh will compete for the Best Irish Short which has a prize fund of 6,000 euro.
