Filmart main draw of Hong Kong's 8-event Entertainment Expo Indiantelevision.com Team (22 March 2005 3:30 pm)

HONG KONG: It's action stations Filmart at the first Entertainment Expo Hong Kong (which runs from 22 March to 6 April).
Season Nine of Filmart, Asia's biggest exposition for film, TV and multi-media trade organised by the Trade Development Council (TDC), is the main draw event of Entertainment Expo, the inaugural edition of which has seven other major activities running simultaneously.

But it is Filmart, TDC's business-to-business industry platform, that continues to grab the most attention, what with the attendance this year surpassing last year's turnout by a long way.
2,400 buyers, 350 exhibitors (up from 2286 and 304 respectively in 2004) do not quite give a full picture of the kind of activity that is going on at Filmart, where deals are being struck in chance meetings, at the various stalls and even over meals in the many eateries that dot the exhibition centre.

Entertainment Expo was inaugurated by acting chief executive Donald Tsang at a gala event last evening attended by more than 1,000 film and entertainment industry leaders, including Chinese super stars Tony Leung and Jackie Chan.
The eight events are:
FILMART, Asia's biggest exposition for film, TV and multi-media trade, organised for the 9th year by the Trade Development Council (TDC)

The Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum, a business platform for Asia's filmmakers, investors, producers, distributors and sales agents, jointly organised by TDC and the Motion Picture Industry Association Ltd.

The Hong Kong International Film Festival, a rich offering of Hong Kong, Asian and international films, organised by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society.

The Hong Kong Film Awards organised by the Hong Kong Film Awards Association.

The Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards, a tribute to Hong Kong's top companies and best brains in the digital technology business.

The Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum.

The IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Awards which highlight Asia's biggest money-earning songs and singers; organised by IFPI (Hong Kong Group) Ltd.

Hong Kong Independent Film & Short Video Awards organised by the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
With the Expo approach, Hong Kong aims to capitalize on the synergies between these events and to make a bigger impact. Formerly, most of the eight events were scattered through the year.
Over the next two weeks, there will be more than 200 screenings of films from all over the world.
TDC chairman Peter Woo sees Hong Kong at the right place and right time for Entertainment Expo, as the city has exceptional reach towards a growing China, a growing Southeast Asia and an affluent Northeast Asia.

Entertainment Expo Hong Kong rolled out Red Carpet

The two-week Entertainment Expo Hong Kong kicked off at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on the 21st. Hong Kong celebrities, including Jackie Chan, Maggie Chang, and Chow Yun-Fat, all joined the grand-opening celebration.

Entertainment Expo Hong Kong held its grand opening ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Besides government officials and entertainment business tycoons, many celebrities, such as Jackie Chan, Maggie Chang and Chou Yun-fat, were all present to celebrate the annual event.

Female singers and actresses were all at their most glamorous walking down the red carpet. Chang Min, who switched from being an entertainment star to a successful business tycoon, wore a sexy low-cut black dress. Pop Star Coco Lee’s green evening dress, with a sheer look in the front, killed lots of films. But when Zhang Xiaohui showed up, all cameras turned their focus on her. Besides her sexy evening gown, she also took center stage by arriving almost at the same time as her former husband, Kenny Bee.

Movie stars Tony Leung and Maggie Chang disregarded the gossip and showed up in front of the cameras hand in hand. Tong Leung also spoke for the future of Hong Kong movies.

The whole event will run for two weeks. Following the grand-opening ceremony, a film festival and Hong Kong Film Award will also be held later this week.

..The event then showed a 10 minute Hong Kong classic film highlight. Under the leadership of conductor Yip Wing Sze the band played hits of superstars like Anita Mui Yim Fong and Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing.

I'm glad they had a place for Leslie and Anita too. So nice that both are remembered.

Hmm... about the hand holding. I thought if people are "social" friends, it is more common for lady to kind of hang/hook her hand around the guy's elbow lightly ?

Holding hands seems kind of a "couple thing". But I guess it is personal. No offense, Tony & Maggie. Wink

They gave away 2 awards that night, one is the "Most anticipated silver screen lovers" - Tony & Maggie and the other one is "Most unforgettable movie character" won by Chow Yun Fat for his Character Mark in "A Better Tomorrow". When Tony went on the stage to receive his award, the MC told him to also invite his good friend Maggie on the stage. Tony said Maggie is not only his good friend, she's also his good working partner. These 2 awards were voted by 60,000 people over the internet.

Chow Yun Fat brought along his wife so certainly Tony could have brought Carina along if she was available or willing to attend.

Yeah, my understanding is that for a casual relationship, the lady would wrap her arm around the gentleman's elbow. But Tony and Maggie are very close. It would look odd if Carina was there though and Tony and Maggie were still holding hands. Laughing

Maggie looks in a very cheerful mood.

I think Tony and Maggie were together that night because they'd knew they would get the "best screen lovers" award.

I don't think we should talk about Tony and Maggie's relationship, because Tony's surfing the Internet now, what will he think if he see this? It's not nice. In Asian culture, this juicy story's never been nice, it's annoying and embarassing.

(3/23/2005)

The first annual Hong Kong Entertainment Expo two nights ago opened at the Convention Center. Hong Kong Entertainment Expo ambassador Tony Leung Chiu Wai and guest Maggie Cheung Man Yuk came hand in hand. They chatted nonstop and posed for pictures. However Cheung Man Yuk declined any interview because she was a guest and she did not want to steal the host's thunder.

They stayed for the entire event and all the new film previews, including DIVERGENCE (SAM CHA HAU), HOUSE OF FURY (JING MO GA TING), INITIAL D, THE EYE 10 (GEIN GWAI 10), ELECTION (HAK SEH WUI), BUG NOT ME (CHUNG BUT JI) and others. Entertainment Expo Digital ambassador Leo Ku Kui Ke and International Music ambassador Coco Lee Man performed.

The Stanley Kwan Kam Pang directed, Sammi Cheng Sau Man, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) and Tony Leung Ka Fai starred EVERLASTING REGRET (CHEUNG HUNG GOR) two nights ago was one of the films features at the Hong Kong Entertainment Expo. Sammi and Kwan Kam Pang appeared a little after the Expo started. Although Sammi again denied that she has health problems, her face was obviously swollen.
REGRET has had endless gossips and rumors since production started, but Sammi's mood was not affected. Two nights ago she still talked and laughed during the interview and pointed out that she would not pay attention to the untrue reports. As for rumors that Sammi's frequent time off affected the progress of the production, Ng Yin Cho expressed that he had no idea. He only followed the notices. As far as he knew, the shoot will continue until the end of April.

When Yumiko Cheng Hei Yi introduced her character in EVERLASTING REGRET, Jackie Chan approached her and talked with her. Whatever Jackie Chan said made Cheng Hei Yi laugh.
