The latest issue of Asia Magazine has Tony Leung on the cover, exploring the revival of Hong Kong movies, and the venture to international arena.

Tony said that it was a whole new experience working with the Koreans in Seoul Raiders. He encourage Hong Kong movie makers to venture out of the Hong Kong market, make partnership with fellow counterparts in asia and other countries, find a bigger market, and more creativity.

Tony Leung said he'll be filming WKW "Yat Doi Zhong Si" in the new year. "After filming for ten over years, I would like to film something new. I will take some time off this year to learn Wing Chun Kuen. To film "Yat Doi Zhing Si", you must at least know Wing Chun. I have not used half a years' time to prepare for a role." With a full schedule, Tony will be filming a private eye and serial murder movie with Andrew Wong in August.

" I'll have talked to Andrew Wong and Mak Siew Fai about detective stories, we are still working onthe script. We meet once a week to talk about the script. As we have limited funds, we'll be taking a longer time so that we won't have to spend so much money."

Tony enjoys the process of making movie. The monetary rewards, recognition or receiving awards is mot on his mind. "I act because I enjoy the job. If you enjoy it, you'll be happy no matter who you work with, and that's glorious."

As for the future of Chinese movies? Tony said " There are many high quality Hong Kong movies. For eg. movies by directors like Wong Kar Wai, Johnny To, 關錦鵬 etc.. They are famous not only in Asia, even western countries as well. There is a trend in movie industry towards amalgamation. The success of many Hong Kong directors in the international arena has opened up new market for Hong Kong movies. In this way, the trend will proliferate."

Asia Magazine editor said that the main consumer for Hong Kong movies are the middle income group, who will not put up with cheap, crass, violence and pornography. Hong Kong has formed Hong Kong Entertainment Expo made up of 8 big film companies to go into internatinal scene.
