Hi Kat

I am sorry about your job loss, all I can do is wish you good luck in job hunting. I admire your courage unwilling to be knocked down by this set back reinventing yourself so quickly by trying a new career. There's an old adage - ''When one door closes another one opens''. I'm sure with your marvellous spirit you will push that door open, right off it's hinges.

Good luck and my best wishes to you and your family, hope all are well...mary.

Hi Yuka

Thanks for info on Norwegian Wood, I'm interested in this movie and hope to get to see it sometime.

Have to say I also enjoyed Memento, thought it was a good movie. Good story and good performances, a movie you have to keep alert for as the plot jumps back and forward.

I've seen the trailers for Inception thought it might be an interesting film, but I'm not always in the mood for too many special effects and Leonardo isn't one of my favourite actors but if the movie seems decent I give him a chance.

Hope you get a chance to take a holiday, I think by now you deserve one. I admire your work ethic and envy your enthusiasm and energy. I'm at a stage now when I do too many hours over a long period I get tired and need a break. You seem to enjoy your job and are really dedicated but even dedication needs a holiday now and again, recharge the batteries. Your work place may appreciate you and need you but just think how much more appreciated and needed you are after a holiday, when work realises how much effort you put in. I'm glad to hear you do enjoy what little time you get off socialising and making time for yourself.

Best wishes...mary.

Hi all!

Kat: so sorry to hear about your job loss Sad what was your job?

Mary: thanks for the welcome! I joined in April Very Happy I didn't like Memento too much, but I watched Inception a few days ago and really liked it. A lot of escapism and some New Age ideas, but very creatively made I thought and very challenging to thought patterns Very Happy

Hi Girls!

Dear Yuko,
My advices are simple and I would give them to a sister or a daughter.

Being too tired is no good for work: loss of memory, difficulties to keep the concentration, difficulties to sleep, unbalanced eating, they all conduct to errors. Mostly stupid, minor errors, but the best course of action is to relax enough and to perform well at work. In the end, holidays save a lot of time and money to the companies.

This is all.
You are an actractive young woman, and you are in sore need to let yourself relax a bit.

Sleeping without set hours, eating to please yourself and suntan are important things, truly, a full immersion in wellness.
Flirting is a natural exilarhant. No bad side affects. It's legal. It's all enjoyment, without pain.

If something good comes out, well, you have all the working months to analyze it.

ENJOY!!!! This is the advice of DocKat Giving a kiss

P.S.: I don't think this company manages only holidays in Italy, I think they are a very big company. Maybe I can have a discounted ticket to HK for our little fan-gathering project, what do you think?

Dear Suellen,
The decision about my job was taken in Canada. Don't you by chance know someone at Harlequin's? A good word would be very appreciated.

But I have to say that, apart the first few days, I am not too scared. I managed so many emergencies in my life, this feels like a minor challenge. I am looking all around home, at the hotels and resorts here. I know english better than average italians, and this helps. But I have to thank the job I did for Harlequin Mondadori if I know it so well. So I don't regret anything. If something, I feel thankful.

You have to know that I have a very ill hub, that underwent seventeen surgeries in twelve years. I never lost my cool in all these years because I had to look after my daughter too and that gave me a measure of balance. The job was a job at home, so I had just to respect my deadlines, and I brought my job with me everywhere, at the hospital and out of school. It was up to me to choose the hours.

So it was a very flexible activity.

But my daughter is grown up now, and studies in Bristol, UK. She has a lot of Canadian-Chinese friends, by the way.

After her leaving I fell in a deep depression, and I had reached the decision to look for something else way before the Mondadori fired me.

I am a deeply social person, so I need some contact with people to sustain the stressful periods with hub. I need to keep myself engaged somehow.

Having been so active for such a long stretch of time, now I feel sort of empty and stupid. I tried to go out with friends, but they mostly go looking to the shops, and I find this activity utterly stupid and boring. I am not a compulsive buyer.

By the way, I feel lucky even if I have this "disaster hub". I always thought that a true problem would have been if something happened to my daughter. I feel a deep empathy with your situation, the need to scream and shout and throw a good tantrum every once in a while too (I felt like this oh so many times!).

About the flirting, well, when things were dire, I confided with my priest, and he told me that flirting or, well, other things - ifyouknowwhatImean - , in cases like mine were forgiven by God.
I am catholic, and I was really taken aback by his answer. But this is what truly happened.

Did I gave course to his advice? Well, yes and no. But a bit of very light flirting, yes, that I did. I am not ugly, you know, and I was younger, so, not exactly invisible. I badly needed those few laughs. I needed to remember myself I was still a woman.

Back to my job search, right now I feel like The Phoenix, that rebirths for its own ashes Wink

At the beginning I felt scared, but I thought a bit and I suspect that I can offer an appealing worker. I mean, I don't have to get married, to put up home or to have babies, I don't want a big career. I just want a simple job and earn a few money. So this makes me appealing to the employers.

A funny notation: being on my own and sharing my coffee with friends gave me the chance to wear after my taste, in a quite unusual way. Then in the last year I let myself go down. So I had to dye my hair, remove hair from the legs and all around and buy some conservative clothes STAT.

Even if the times changed and now t-shirts, jeans and trainers substituted the usual executive suit of my youth, I don't think an employer would be encouraged to take me on board by my usual clothes.... whoa, even my suits are more right for a high profile manager than to a last grade employee, not to mention the shoes (they are pieces of art, but disquieting)!!!!!! Laughing
Ok, stop to the laughs,

You'll see that I will find the right thing for me.

A Big Hug & Kiss

Hi Kat,
Keep your chin up and your positive attitude flowing. I'm sure good things will come your way. Smile

BTW I'm going to take the flirting advice you gave Yuka. But I don't think it works when you're cooped up in an office with 4 people. T_T

+++

There hasn't been too much of a heat wave on this side of the globe. However it was pouring this past weekend and the one of the ceiling panels in my office collapsed. Luckily no one was sitting at the desk when it happened. We had quite a few leaks afterwards so there was plenty of bucket action. It's actually quite hilarious because I'm positive that spot is cursed. Hehehe.

I saw Inception today!! I felt like it lived up to the hype. It's been a while since I've watched Memento. I think the sequencing of the story was really well done in Memento, however I found the plot for Inception to be very intriguing. My mom enjoyed the movie too. Smile

Hi Girls,
thank you all for your kind words and support.

I hope I can keep my cool few months from now.

My job was to translate or to read before the translation the Harlequin and Mills & Boon romances, here published by Harlequin Mondadori.

I also translated for University.

Somehow I felt I was always traveling with my job, because I knew about costumes and ways of places all around the world, so the new choice is not so strange after all. Curiosity is my second name.

Now, about flirting: it's a great entertaining activity. But it can change meaning from a Country to another. I mean, you know how are italian men?
They do a point of honor to compliment a woman at every given moment (Italian men are a band of liars). I always laugh, answer with a joke and go away. My hub doesn't appreciate.

But I swear, they are easy laughs, and hurt nobody.

Laughing is good for health, keeps your mental balance, most of all when you are hard pressed from troubles and anxiety.
It's legal!!!!

My daughter tells me that in the UK it is not so. The boys she met don't look at a woman if they are not alcol propelled. When sober they look at... their shoes!

So I gather that flirting can be hard work in your Country. Even so, clean up yourself well, smile and... something usually happens. Lets wait and see.

Ok, gotta go now.

Nighty Night
Mimma

Sorry,
I forgot to mention that I read "Norvegian Wood", that, funny enough, was mostly written not only in Rome, but even close to my home.

I warmly recommended the reading of it to my daughter.
It was interesting the descripion of the feelings of a nineteen years old boy, the same age of my daughter.

The same isolation, the same aloofness, the same uncertainty about the future and his role in it...

And all around other boys and girls suicide. They fall like flies...

Can't wait to see how the film was realized.

Bye, a Kiss
Mimma

Girls,
thank to you all.
The search was blessedly short.

I sent my curriculum to several places, hotels and resorts all at walking distance from home, and I am still waiting for the other ones to call me.

We'll see if they have better options to offer, but meanwhile it's better to look for a new job being emploied than being unemploied. I now have better chances to negotiate for myself.

Dear Cisca,
welcome back. I missed you, but thought that you were having your hands full at the office.

Hope you're well and happy.

A Big Hug & Kiss to You All
Mimma the AlmostThereKat.
